Ranch Rodeo

Saturday 6:00 pm – Main Arena

Ranch Rodeo Entry Form

Four events designed to show different parts of cowboy life.  Each team is comprised of four members and each member assumes a specific task or skill.
All events have a two minute time limit.

Events
Team Doctoring
Every cowboy has had to doctor a cow from time to time where there were no chutes in sight. Ten head of cattle start at one end of the arena. When a number is given, all of the other cattle have to be sorted out into the main part of the arena. The designated steer is headed, heeled and “doctored” by putting a cloths pin on its ear. The cloths pin must stay on the ear until all ropes are off and time stops.

Your Cows Are Out
Cows have a mind of their own and they figure the grass is greener on the other side of the fence from time to time. This event will see how fast the cowboys can go from sipping coffee to getting their cows back in the right pasture. Ten head of cattle will be held in a pen on one end of the arena and all four horses are saddled, haltered and tied in a small corral at the opposite end of the arena. When the phone rings a number is given. The contestants must bridle their horses and sort out the designated calf and the next number higher. If a wrong calf gets in the wrong “pasture” the team is disqualified. Time will stop when the second calf is back home. If time runs out credit on cattle in the correct pen will be given.

Rope'n Drag Relay
Sometimes cows are not the most cooperative creatures. This event will see what team can rope a roping dummy “steer” and drag it across the line the fastest. Two unsaddled horses will be in a pen. Time will start and the horses must be saddled and the latigo MUST have two wraps in the rigging. When the horses are saddled one cowboy will rope the “steer” and drag it to the other end of the arena, drop the “steer” and come back across the time line. When the first rider crosses the time line the second rider goes down and ropes the “steer” and drags it back across the time line. Time stops when the rope is off of the “steer.”

Sort'n Hold
Sorting and holding cattle can be a fine art at times. When the contestant are given a number they must ride into the herd of 10 and sort out the designated number and the next higher number, take them to the other end of the arena and hold them in a pen marked off with chalk for 10 seconds. Wrong numbered cattle may not enter the chalk “pen.” Time ends when both cattle have been in the pen for 10 seconds.
